You may have noticed the DA’s office billboards throughout Orange County, or seen District Attorney Todd Spitzer on the news or in social media - Orange County is cracking down on theft.  We’ve all seen the news stories, showing groups of people wearing hoodies storming into Apple stores and stealing dozens of expensive devices.  It’s a problem, and a problem that Orange County is trying to keep outside its borders.

What does this mean for the client who is accused of shoplifting?  Here at Not Guilty Law, we are still getting these cases dismissed.  Theft and burglary charges can be problematic for people with immigration issues, students with scholarships or grants, people who are in the military or wish to join the military, workers with professional licenses, and many others.  

Orange County theft cases can still be dismissed, reduced from felonies to misdemeanors, and resolved favorably for our clients once we put together a mitigation package to show the prosecution and the judge what’s at stake in your life.  We work with our clients to put together documents which may include treatment letters from therapists, civil compromise letters showing that the retail store has been reimbursed, character reference letters, and others.

We have been Orange County’s best theft and shoplifting case attorneys for over a decade, and I’ve had success getting those cases dismissed before and after the new anti-theft media campaign that the DA’s office has initiated.  

Criminal law is a changing landscape, and there will always be particular crimes that are highlighted in the media.  Right now, theft is a hot topic throughout California, but it has been our experience that we can still get fantastic results for our clients in theft and shoplifting cases.
